What to expect —
your first Physiotherapy Brisbane appointment
Your first session at Barefoot is all about you. It begins with listening to your story and understanding why you’ve come in — not just your pain, but the goals and activities that matter most to you.
From there, your physio uses specific nerve and orthopaedic tests to create an initial hands-on treatment plan, setting the foundation for your recovery.
As treatment progresses, a whole-body assessment helps uncover the true root of the issue. Each step builds towards lasting change: treating the cause, giving you strategies to manage it, and showing you how to look after your body for the future.
This may include postural retraining, strength work, and tailored education — all designed to give you confidence, clarity, and long-term results.
At Barefoot, physiotherapy isn’t just about relieving pain. It’s about empowering you to move freely and live the highest quality of life.
Creating a holistic
treatment plan
A PLAN BUILT AROUND YOUR BODY, YOUR STORY AND THE TRUE CAUSE OF YOUR PAIN
Your treatment begins with a thorough assessment to uncover the underlying cause of your pain. This includes looking at how your joints, muscles, nerves, movements, and even the way your body responds to stress are working together.
From there, you and your physio prioritise which findings to focus on first. These are tested in real time to see how your body responds — because the true cause of pain is often different from where you actually feel the symptoms.
This process gives you a clear, personalised plan that addresses what’s really going on, not just the surface pain.

Hands on care
to support your body
Treatment that reduces pain, restores movement, and builds lasting strength.
Once the underlying cause is identified, treatment focuses on reducing its impact across your body. Each session includes ongoing checks of your movement, muscles, and joints to make sure you’re improving and heading toward your goals.
The hands-on approach may involve joint mobilisation, muscle release, needling, or retraining — techniques designed to settle pain and help your body move better.
From there, strength and endurance work is gradually introduced to make those gains stick. This step-by-step approach reflects the latest research and supports long-term confidence in how your body moves.
Next steps —
Individualised
Brisbane Physio care
Support that continues beyond the clinic walls.
Care doesn’t stop when the appointment ends. Between sessions, your physio checks in to track progress and help you stay focused on your goals. You’re encouraged to reach out anytime — by email, text, or phone — if questions come up.
Any at-home exercises are tailored to the areas that matter most for your body, designed to reduce strain and improve movement. You can choose how much or how little homework you’d like, so it fits your lifestyle.
Collaboration with your wider health team is part of the process too. If you already have other practitioners involved, your physio can connect with them. And if you’re looking to add Pilates, exercise physiology, podiatry, nutrition, dietetics, or massage, trusted referral partners are ready to support your journey.

Crafting a plan for
long term health
Prevention-focused care to keep your body moving well.
Health maintenance is about more than recovery — it’s about protecting your body for the future. “Tune-up” sessions at increasing intervals help prevent injury, support your lifestyle, and keep you moving freely.
These sessions may include continuing treatment for the primary cause of your pain, as well as addressing secondary areas that play a role in overall function. The goal is to keep your body working at its best, whether that’s managing a persistent sports injury, supporting recovery after pregnancy, or simply staying active and confident.
Because long-term care isn’t just about avoiding pain. It’s about living the life you choose with strength and ease.

Why choose Barefoot over other Brisbane physios?
When you’re searching for the best physio Brisbane, you want more than just a quick fix. At Barefoot, every appointment is one-on-one, with care that combines hands-on treatment, thorough testing, and a plan designed just for you.
What makes Barefoot different?
You matter. From the moment you walk in, you’re seen, heard, and understood — never rushed or treated like “just another appointment.”
Excellence is the baseline. Our team is highly trained, continually learning, and dedicated to the highest standard of care.
We bring the fireworks. That means fresh thinking, holistic care, and results that last — not just short-term relief.
Choosing Barefoot means choosing physiotherapy that addresses your pain now while uncovering the root cause, so you can move with confidence and live the life you choose.
How long does it usually take to feel results?
Everyone wants to know how soon they’ll feel better — and the honest answer is, it depends.
Some people notice improvements after their very first session. For others, recovery takes a few treatments to ease symptoms and build lasting strength. The timeframe depends on your body, your condition, and your goals.
At Barefoot, the focus is always on giving you relief as quickly as possible while also addressing the root cause. After your first appointment, you’ll receive a clear plan with an expected recovery timeline and the number of sessions likely to be needed.
Our aim isn’t to keep you coming back forever. It’s to help you feel better now, prevent problems from returning, and get you back to living your life with confidence.
Do you treat just the pain, or the root cause too?
At Barefoot, the focus is always on both: easing pain now, and uncovering what’s really driving it.
Your first sessions include a thorough assessment to look not just at the site of pain, but at the whole body — how your joints, muscles, nerves and movement patterns are working together. This helps identify the true root cause of the issue.
Once that’s clear, your physio creates a tailored treatment plan designed to relieve symptoms in the short term and build long-term mobility, strength and confidence.
By addressing both pain and cause, your recovery is more efficient, your treatment is more effective, and the results last longer.
Where is the Barefoot Physiotherapy Clinic Located?
Barefoot Physiotherapy is based in the Red Brick House at 28 Curzon Street, Tennyson QLD 4105, right near the Queensland Tennis Centre. We’re only 20 minutes from Brisbane City and the CBD, with easy on-site parking.
Getting here is simple:
From Tennyson Memorial Avenue, turn left into Curzon Street.
From Graceville or Chelmer, access Curzon Street via Walker Street.
We regularly see clients from surrounding suburbs including Graceville, Sherwood, Chelmer, Corinda, Fairfield, Yeronga, Indooroopilly, Annerley and Moorooka.
Many travel further across Brisbane too, seeking the holistic, hands-on care Barefoot is known for.
What Should I Wear to My Appointment?
The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and safe. Please wear loose-fitting clothes that let you move and stretch freely during your consultation — exercise shorts/tights and a loose top or singlet are ideal.
Coming straight from work or another appointment? No problem. We have a changeroom and toilet available so you can get changed here.
We also provide clean shorts (XS–3XL) and singlets/t-shirts (S–XL) in the changeroom for anyone who needs them. Every body is welcome, and we make sure you feel included and supported.
How much do physiotherapy sessions cost in Brisbane?
At Barefoot, every appointment is one-on-one and fully tailored to your body, your injury, and your goals.
Initial consultations (60 minutes): $182 with a General Physio, or $284 with a Senior Physio. This longer first session gives time for a thorough assessment and a personalised treatment plan.
Follow-up sessions (30 minutes): $142–$182, depending on the physio you see.
Private health: Claims can be made on the spot through HICAPS. To check your rebate, look for code 500 (initial consult) and 505 (follow-up). We’re not a preferred provider for any health funds — which means your sessions are always tailored for you, not the rebate structure.
Medicare: Rebates are available with a GP Care Plan ($61.80 per session, up to 5 sessions per year). If you’ve reached the Medicare Safety Net, rebates increase to around 80% of the fee.
Other cover: We accept WorkCover and insurance clients as private clients, with reimbursement managed directly through your insurer.
When you’re comparing the cost of physiotherapy in Brisbane, it’s important to look not just at the fee, but the value. At Barefoot, the focus is always on care that starts with immediate relief and builds toward long-term results.
Do I need a referral to see a physio at Barefoot?
In most cases, no referral is needed — you can book an appointment with a Barefoot physiotherapist anytime, either online or by calling 1300 842 850.
The only exception is if you’re seeing us under a Medicare GP Management Plan. In that case, your GP provides a referral that allows rebates for up to 5 sessions per year. The current rebate is $61.80 per session (as of July 2025). If you’ve reached your Medicare Safety Net, the rebate increases to around 80% of the fee.
We also love referrals from other health professionals. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team means we can support you more holistically and ensure every part of your care is connected.
So whether you come with or without a referral, you can start your recovery straight away.
