What Is the Wellbeing Battery—and Why I Created It
Written by Sal:
As a physiotherapist and Director of Barefoot Physiotherapy, I’ve spent years working with people of all walks of life. Through that experience and some significant personal experiences, I came to a powerful realisation: many people don’t know how much energy they’re working with each day. They push through, hustle harder, and “keep it together” until suddenly… they can’t. That tipping point—what we often call burnout—became something I couldn’t ignore.
That’s one of the reasons I created the Wellbeing Battery.

What is it?
The Wellbeing Battery is a way of making the intangible, tangible. It gives us a language for energy—how much of it we have, how quickly it drains, and how we can recharge.
Think of it like your phone battery. If you saw it was down to 10%, you’d probably grab a charger pretty quickly. But how often do we check in with our own battery levels? Most of us don’t. We wait until we’re completely flat before we pause. The Wellbeing Battery helps you notice where you’re at before you reach empty.
So what is it really?
It’s a self-awareness tool. A daily practice. A mindset shift.
I believe that on any given day, we’re operating somewhere between 1–100% charge. Our energy is impacted by what we do, what’s expected of us, how we’re feeling, and what we’ve carried into the day. Some mornings, we wake up at 80% and can take on the world. Other days, it’s a miracle if we’re at 20%—and still going to work, taking care of people, and ticking off to-dos.
By breaking the battery into 5 levels, each with their own colours and descriptions, we get better at checking in with ourselves—and that changes everything.
At Barefoot Physiotherapy, we now integrate the Wellbeing Battery into our holistic approach to care. Understanding your energy helps us understand your pain, your resilience, and your healing capacity. And most importantly—it gives you a framework to work with, not against, your body and mind.
I created the Wellbeing Battery so that you can build empathy for yourself, track your energy with compassion, and give yourself permission to rest when you need to.
Because recharging isn’t indulgent—it’s necessary.
