Barefooter Stories
1 – What’s your favourite activity outside of work, and how does it help you live your Barefoot Lifestyle?
Cooking – especially cooking for others. It’s creative, relaxing, and grounding, helping me slow down, be present, and enjoy simple moments, all core parts of the Barefoot Lifestyle. Cooking lets me share good, nourishing food and connect with the people I care about.
2 – We know that bodies love to move. What do you enjoy doing movement-wise?
I love getting to the beach, especially with my older brother — spending a morning freediving or bodysurfing is the perfect mix of fun, connection, and being in the ocean. For me, movement is about adventure and feeling connected. I’ve also started cycling around the river more lately — it’s a fun and easy way to add movement into my week.
3 – What is one of your favourite memories, and how did it shape who ‘Lizzie’ is today?
A favourite memory is going mountain biking in Cairns when I was 11 with my older brother. I was the youngest in the group and absolutely terrified, but I did it anyway. At the bottom of the final hill, my parents were waiting — and I completely stacked it halfway down. I was mortified. But my brother was there smiling (once he saw I was ok), and I ended up laughing my way through it.
It’s a reminder that courage, resilience, and fun can all happen at the same time — and that you can fall, laugh, and get back up.
4 – If you could choose your dream holiday, would you prefer an international or local destination? And what has been your favourite holiday so far?
Australia has so much beauty still to explore, but if I had to choose, I’d go international. My favourite trip so far was to Sri Lanka. It was a first for my family, and everything felt like an adventure — the food, the beaches, the jungle, the wildlife. Every day brought something new and completely different.
5 – What made you want to become a Physiotherapist, and what has been your favourite moment so far?
I’ve always loved helping people — and I’ve always loved hands-on work. Growing up with my own sports injuries made me curious about how the body works and how to look after it long-term.
One standout moment was meeting a patient’s family at the hospital during discharge. Seeing their genuine appreciation for the physio care and support we provided was incredibly meaningful — a real reminder of why I chose this work.
Bonus Question: Can you share a bit more about the volunteer work you’ve done?
I spent time volunteering in Sri Lanka, teaching English to kids. From weaving through crowded fish markets in tuk-tuks to riding local buses down dusty roads, every day was full of challenges, surprises and connections. It was the most rewarding experience — and one I’ll never forget.
